What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a holistic system of medicine that stimulates the body's self-healing powers to create a long lasting improvement. Homeopathy treats a wide range of conditions with remedies prepared from plant, animal and mineral substances. Homeopathy is essentially the healing practice of treating like with like. That means that a healing response is triggered by administering a minute dose of the same substance that would provoke the disease symptoms if taken by a healthy person.

What happens at the homeopathic consultation?

The first homeopathic consultation lasts one and a half hours. It involves intensive listening and questioning. The homeopath will enquire about current and previous symptoms. There will be enquiries about the body, mental and emotional make up of the patient. This allows the homeopath prescribe the appropriate remedy. Follow up visits are arranged to assess the action of the remedy on the symptoms, fine tune the dose and frequency of the remedy and prescribe a new remedy, if needed.

How many consultations are needed?

The duration of the whole treatment will depend on the specific disease and the general state of health of the patient. Some people will respond quite rapidly but in other cases particular symptoms will take much longer to resolve.

How to take the remedy?

The remedy should be taken in a clean mouth. Food, beverages, sweets, other medication and toothpaste should be avoided for 30 minutes before and after taking the remedy. Specific instructions on the amount and frequency of the remedy is written on the label or given in writing.

What is the plussing method?

Put 3 pills into a bottle of 200mls still water. Take one sip every 15 minutes for up to 10 doses, until there is a third of the bottle left, shaking the bottle each time before sipping. Then fill up the bottle with water and leave in the fridge. Do this once a day for 7 days, making sure that each day it is topped up. Stop for one week and then repeat.

What happens after taking the remedy?

The more recent symptoms should be the first to improve. Also, if the remedy is the correct one, the sense of wellbeing and energy should increase. However, sometimes an aggravation of the symptoms appears before there is noticeable improvement. In addition old symptoms may also come back for a short while and then fade away, like a playback, indicating that the body is responding to the remedy.

When to stop a remedy?

     If any of the following happen please phone me as soon as possible

    - Stop if you become symptom free, have more energy or feel much better

    - Stop if there is a strong return of old symptoms

    - Stop if there are strong new symptoms

    - Stop if there is a clear worsening of your symptoms

    How to store the remedy?

    The remedies should be stored away from heat, light, strong smells and electronic equipment such as mobiles, TV's and computers. They should be kept in their bottles with the top on and away from children or animals.

    What should I do if something concerns me after taking the remedy?

    You should not hesitate to call and leave a message or send an email. A reply will usually be sent within 24 hours.

    What about if I am already taking medications?

    Homeopathic remedies are compatible with and complement conventional medicine medication. You should always continue taking the medication prescribed by your G.P. and/or Consultant. If you consider that your medication needs to be change please contact your G.P./Consultant.
